This lecture is fully devoted to deriving the Sackur-Tetrode equation - the expression for the entropy in terms of extensive variables V, N and E, for a monoatomic ideal gas - and its consequences. This equation determines the whole thermodynamics of the ideal gas. Common formulas such as the equation of state and the formula for the energy as function of the temperature

2E = 3NkT

are easily obtained from the Sackur-Tetrode equation.
