This lecture is fully devoted to deriving the **Sackur-Tetrode equation** - the expression for the entropy in terms of extensive variables *V*, *N* and *E*, for a monoatomic ideal gas - and its consequences. This equation determines the whole thermodynamics of the ideal gas. Common formulas such as **the equation of state** and the formula for the energy as function of the temperature

are easily obtained from the Sackur-Tetrode equation.
